Najib's Blog: FUTURE READY: THE BOOMING MOBILE MARKET OF IRAN

Kazi Najib Ashraf is a Telecoms Professional and a Blogger and he is a contributor to www.handelot.com, he can be contacted at kazi.najib@playtorium.com.

I have been fortunate to work with Telecoms Professionals across the MEA Region. One of the most intriguing and interesting regional markets for Mobility Devices is Iran and Iman Soltani is the man to be in touch to know the pulse of the industry.
Iranian market is complex (79 Million Population) with the monthly size of 900k units shared between smart and feature phones. Samsung and Huawei dominate the market with several other brands fighting for existence. Apple is another story with a rich fan following and only and strictly just the USA Variant LL/A is acceptable to the Traders and Consumers as well. No one would touch any other variant suspecting it to be fake. 80% plus all imports of mobiles is through the gray channel.
The ASP if 130$.
In order for any brand to survive, they must have a local presence and Service Facilities are an absolute must; keep in view a strict Consumer Protection Department. Nothing remote works in the country and one has to invest and stay put to succeed. Its a 99% IR Market with very limited OR Channels in the country.
New aspiring brands are TP-Link, Hyundai, Micromax, and Panasonic. For more information and details on the market please feel free to contact Iman Soltani.
