Analyst Predicts Launch of new 4-inch iPhone in 2016

KGI Securities analyst Ming Kuo has reported that Apple is getting ready to launch a new 4-inch iPhone during the first half of 2016. The release of the phone could be a move to bolster sales and take pressure off the 6s to meet or exceed the success of last year's iPhone 6/6plus. It may also be an attempt to satisfy potential phone buyers who prefer a smaller phone and have been underwhelmed with their options of 4-inch Android devices.
According to Kuo, it is possible that Apple will use a metal casing material instead of plastic, taking a lesson from the lackluster iPhone 5c. The phone may feature a 16-nanometer A9 chip to ensure that current and future versions of iOS run well on the devices.
There is also speculation that Apple will opt to exclude 3D Touch from the 4-inch iPhone. This will allow Apple to offer a lower-cost phone while at the same time making certain features exclusive to higher-end models, diversifying Apple's product range.
In the end, it's important to remember that while Kuo has a strong track record with his Apple speculations, he hasn't been right on the mark each and every time. It's possible that Apple will come to the same conclusion that Sony arrived at: that a 4-inch smartphone is not large enough for today's market.
