Xiaomi international expansion plans

Xiaomi international expansion plans

After doubling its sales in Greater China in 2013 and forecasting more than doubling their sales in 2014 , Xiaomi started its international expansion in Singapore in February 2014 . Next target was Malaysia .
The original plan of Xiaomi expansion in 2014 included 10 new markets – India , Indonesia , Brazil , Malaysia , Mexico , the Philippines , Russia , Thailand , Turkey and Vietnam .

Due to the early success though ,  on the markets of primary focus - in India and Indonesia the sales exceeded its expectations by far – the company will have to postpone its arrival to some of those countries .

In a change of strategy Xioami decided to first focus into bringing their full product portfolio in the countries that entered already .” The company needs to first ensure its logistics infrastructure can support demand in Asian regions ”  as company officials expressed . Its important to add that Xiaomi is now planning to produce its smartphones in India as well as Brazil, and is already in talks with electronics manufacturer Foxconn . In this way they will try to eliminate the supply-demand problem. While production in India will likely begin in the next couple of years, Brazil may start sooner .

Scaling back its international expansion is apparently the smart thing to do. So the next country in which Xiaomi will sell its wares will be Brazil, but its arrival there will only happen in the first half of 2015. After that, it will finally make it to Thailand, Russia, Mexico, and Turkey, though for these markets we don't even get a rough timeline.

Four years only after Xiaomi entered the mobile phone industry , it managed to climb on the third place of the worlds largest smartphone makers last month and the company can reach the first place on the next 5 to 10 years Xiaomi's CEO Lei Jun sais .
